In the recipe below, I will show you how to assemble a classic lox bagel. Let me first say that a lox bagel is not for everyone! I feel that the lox ( cured salmon ) is an acquired taste. In the recipe below I am using smoked salmon because it is just more easily accessible. If you happen to be a Costco member, you can purchase the Everything Bagel, Plain Cream Cheese and Smoked Salmon at most Costco warehouses. At Costco, they sell 3 different brands of Smoked Salmon. In the recipe below I had used the Kirkland Signature Wild Smoked Salmon but my family did not really care for it. The salmon was super smokey and the texture was just way too soft for us. I would not recommend using it but I did hear some good things about the regular Kirkland Signature Smoked Salmon. I perhaps would probably use that one next time instead. The third brand is a Norwegian Smoked Salmon but I haven’t given that a try yet although they do look delicious.

Okay, now let’s talk about the bagel. The lox bagel is typically served on an Everything bagel. When it comes to bagels though, I prefer to buy them from Einstein Bagels as they are made fresh daily. There’s nothing like a fresh baked bagel and the store bought ones just don’t compare !

Next, let’s talk about the cream cheese. Original plain cream cheese is typically smeared onto the bagel but I prefer to use the Philadephia brand cream cheese with chive & onion from Ralph’s. You can choose which ever cream cheese you’d like.

I also prefer to serve the lox bagel on a single slice of bagel with extra red onions and extra capers on the side! If you sandwich both slices of bagels, I feel like it’s just too thick to eat and serving the lox bagel on a single bagel just looks prettier with all the ingredients showing.
